Credits
Profundis runs on credits. The rule is simple: 1 credit = 1 search.
Profundis used to track several separate quotas (daily/monthly searches and results, plus a dedicated subdomain-enumeration quota). That has been replaced by a single, easier-to-reason-about credit balance. You no longer have to think about per-day vs per-month results — you have an amount of credits, and each search spends some. Your previous usage was carried over during the migration; no action is required on your part.
How credits are spent
| Operation | Cost |
|---|---|
| A search (hosts, DNS, WHOIS, certificates/vhosts, domain details, IP intelligence) | 1 credit |
| A favicon search | 1 credit |
| A pipeline / registrant-explorer search | 1 credit per step |
| An API call (any of the above via the API) | 1 credit |
| Subdomain enumeration | 1 credit per 100 subdomains returned (rounded up) |
| Export | 1 credit per 1,000 rows exported (rounded up) |
ASN / autonomous-system lookups are free (the data is public registry information), and the favicon picker in the UI does not cost a credit.
A few things are free and never cost a credit: our curated example/"special" queries and the demo lookups (e.g. 8.8.8.8 on IP intelligence). Re-opening the next page of a result set you already paid for is not charged again.
The per-search result cap (10 / 30 / 50 results per page, depending on your plan), pagination depth, and the number of filters per query are still enforced — those are limits, not credits.
Where your credits come from
You have two pools, and they are spent in this order:
- Monthly allocation — included with your plan. It resets every billing cycle.
- Purchased balance — credits you buy in packs. Used once your monthly allocation is exhausted (overage), and they never expire.
Monthly allocation per plan
| Plan | Monthly credits |
|---|---|
| Free | 200 |
| Professional | 12,000 |
| Enterprise | 60,000 |
| Basic (legacy) | 3,000 |
| Premium (legacy) | 10,000 |
Basic and Premium are legacy plans: existing subscribers keep them (and they are marked “(Legacy)” in your account), but they are no longer available to new subscribers — the current plans are Professional and Enterprise.
When do credits renew?
- Subscribers (Professional / Enterprise / legacy): your monthly allocation resets at your Stripe billing cycle date — the same day your subscription renews each month (or each period, for annual plans). Cancelling and re-subscribing simply re-anchors the cycle to your new billing date; your purchased balance is never affected.
- Free accounts: your monthly allocation resets on a monthly cycle anchored to your first sign-in.
You can always see your current cycle usage and your reset date in the sidebar and on your Profile → Billing page (“this cycle: used / allocation” and “purchased balance (never expires)”).
Credit packs
Need more than your monthly allocation? Buy a credit pack. Packs are a one-time purchase, the credits are added to your purchased balance, and they never expire.
| Pack | Credits | Price (EUR) | Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 500 | €19 | $22 |
| Pro | 2,000 | €59 | $69 |
| Bulk | 6,000 | €149 | $179 |
| Mega | 20,000 | €399 | $469 |
You can buy packs on any paid account, and on Free once you’ve purchased credits (pay-as-you-go). Manage everything from your subscription page.
Running out of credits
If a search would cost more than you have left (monthly allocation + purchased balance), the request is rejected with a clear “out of credits” message (error code Q2014) and nothing is charged — you simply buy a pack or wait for your next monthly reset.
Using the API efficiently
For automated/API usage, the volume operations are billed on what you actually receive:
- Subdomain enumeration and export accept a
limitparameter (andlimit=maxto pull everything). Billing is post-hoc on the rows actually returned (ceil(returned / 100)for subdomains, ceil(returned / 1000)for exports), and the response is capped so you can never spend more credits than your balance. - Free accounts are capped at 300 subdomains per enumeration (any paid plan removes the cap). Each enumeration still bills
ceil(returned / 100)credits. - An
estimatemode (≈1 credit) lets you check how many results a query would return before pulling them.
See the API documentation for the exact parameters.
FAQ
Do my credits expire? Your monthly allocation resets (does not roll over) at each billing cycle. Purchased pack credits never expire.
When exactly do they renew? On your Stripe billing date (subscribers) or monthly from your first sign-in (Free). See When do credits renew? above.
What happened to my old quotas? They were migrated to credits — see the callout at the top of this page. The old Quotas page is kept for reference only.
I cancelled my subscription — did I lose my purchased credits? No. Cancelling drops you to the Free allocation, but your purchased balance stays intact.
Can I use Profundis commercially? Commercial use is allowed on any paid account (Free is non-commercial). Reselling, redistributing, or rebuilding the dataset is not permitted on any plan — see our Terms.
